{"id":778,"date":"2024-08-14T08:19:03","date_gmt":"2024-08-14T08:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stadspijpers.nl\/?page_id=778"},"modified":"2024-08-14T08:19:03","modified_gmt":"2024-08-14T08:19:03","slug":"the-bristol-waites","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stadspijpers.nl\/index.php\/the-bristol-waites\/","title":{"rendered":"The Bristol Waites"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a21f22bf-a04e-4c2a-8c4f-af71584822db\"><em>The Bristol Waites were first documented at a visit to Thornbury Castle in the\u00a01340&#8217;s. \u00a0Funding ended in the1860&#8217;s so the Waites were unemployed. \u00a0Steffan and Beryl were passionate to restart \u00a0the Waites in Bristol and did so\u00a0in 2019. It was\u00a0decided to have\u00a0blue cassocks\u00a0as Bristol is famous for \u2018Bristol Blue Glass\u2019 and Blue coloured taxis! Our costumes and\u00a0hats were designed and made by our costume expert Beryl.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9204387f-feca-4dc3-ab78-89bd61db31e2\"><em>There are 7 regular members, Steffan Llwyd who\u00a0is the musical director and organises all the music,\u00a0Ian Fury King\u00a0, Karen Middleton, Rachel Berger,\u00a0Benomy Tucher\u00a0and Susan Crennell and Claire Peacock. Two other\u00a0members Samuel and Maddie come when possible but are teachers in London.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-fef4c8b7-5ed6-49f9-a478-eb94ca502671\"><em>Although we are based around and near Bristol, in the South West of England,\u00a0we cover nearby areas too. In the past\u00a0\u00a0year we have played in The Red Lodge in Bristol, (a Tudor building), the Heritage centre in Yate, Chepstow Castle in South Wales, in Gloucester&#8217;s The Folk,\u00a0Wassails\u00a0in Bristol and Chepstow (celebrating the apple trees that cider is made from)\u00a0and\u00a0on the harbour-side\u00a0in Bristol.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-193dd807-1504-42ce-bd51-9b6568061e70\"><em>We also played at the funeral of our founder member Beryl Fury King who died in November 2023<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-bc78fe15-c0f0-4776-81a2-3b7c4848af82\"><em>Our music is from the Medieval and Tudor periods, and we enjoy playing dances as well as singing<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\" id=\"block-a9432c0c-30ff-4b53-802a-2a0143b03510\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/stadspijpers.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/bristol-waites.jpg\" alt=\"Deze afbeelding heeft een leeg alt-attribuut; de bestandsnaam is bristol-waites.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-bd869715-af74-4090-9389-731d4eddd281\">In de archieven vinden we The Bristol Waites voor het eerst bij een bezoek aan Tornbury Castle rond 1340. De fondsen eindigden in 1860, en dat betekende werkloze Waites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a12cf3e7-f387-4ad2-8085-a4cbe4249b53\">Steffan en Beryl herstartten de Waites in Bristol in 2019. Gekozen werd voor blauwe mantels, aangezien Bristol bekend staat om het blauwe Bristol glas en de blauwgekleurde taxi\u2019s. Kostuums en hoofddeksels zijn ontworpen en gemaakt door kostuum-expert Beryl. Er zijn 7 vaste leden: Steffan Llwyd als de muzikale leider, Ian Fury King, Karen Middleton, Rachel Berger, Benomy Tucher, Susan Crennel en Claire Peacock. Twee overige leden, Samuel en Maddie, leraren in London, komen wanneer mogelijk. Bristol, in het zuidwesten van Engeland, is de basisplaats, maar we komen ook in de nabijgelegen gebieden. Afgelopen jaar speelden we in The Red Lodge in Bristol (een Tudor-gebouw), in Heritage centre in Yate, Chepstow Castle in Zuid-Wales, in Gloucesters The Folk, Wassails in Bristol en Chepstow en in de haven van Bristol.
